This course will discuss the inherent differences in concerns, strategies and negotiations between a land owner and a lessee. A landman typically represents a lessee, oil and gas company, or mineral purchaser and pursues interests and strategies for acquiring an oil and gas lease, surface use or damages agreement, right of way, seismic permit, etc. The land owner will have different goals, interests and perspectives than the landman’s client. The discussion will outline the principal measures each party takes to negotiate a fair and reasonable transaction while highlighting some of the common areas of contention and reasons therefore.
