Speaker: Phillip A. Guerra, CPL | ForeFront Power

Phillip is the east coast land acquisition manager at ForeFront Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. He and his company develop solar projects – behind-the-meter, community solar, and wholesale solutions – across the United States and Mexico.

Presentation Topic: O&G vs. Solar: A Land Overview

This presentation will focus on the basics of what an oil & gas land professional needs to know about solar from a land perspective. You will learn about the different types of solar energy projects (e.g., ground mount, parking canopy, rooftop). You will walk through an example ground mount site for a potential community solar project in Michigan. Additionally, Mr. Guerra will discuss the similarities and differences between acquiring acreage in oil & gas versus solar, including key lease terms and pricing.

Speaker: Chip Tokar, CPG | Natural Resources Management, LLC

Chip is a Professional Geologist and owner of Natural Resources Management, LLC, a geological and environmental consulting firm located in Sylvania, Ohio since 2007.  Prior to starting NRM, Chip worked as an Environmental Consultant from 1994 through 2000 and as a Mining Administrator for an aggregate mining company from 2000 to 2007 in SE Michigan and NW Ohio.

Presentation Topic: Rocks Are Minerals Too - Working Relationships with the Landman

Mineral Rights are not only oil and gas; they include surface, underground rocks, and hard minerals too.  Chip will share information about permitting new mining operations including sand and gravel, industrial sand, limestone, and sandstone quarries.  Chip is an approved mineral valuation professional with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and will give examples of hard mineral valuation reports for both property owners as well as quarry operators. Understanding hard mineral operations in Michigan will better serve Landmen while working in the field as in many cases it is necessary to work together.
